The Vision

What is interventional CMR?

Interventional cardiac MRI uses real-time MRI to visualize cardiac anatomy, tissue, catheters, and devices during cardiovascular procedures.

Unlike conventional X-ray fluoroscopy, MRI does not use ionizing radiation and can provide detailed soft-tissue information alongside procedural imaging.

At SCIC, iCMR is an active translational research program focused on developing and validating imaging, technical, and procedural workflows.

From bench to bedside — SCIC is building one of North America's leading iCMR research programmes, spanning device development, imaging innovation, and clinical translation.

MRI-Guided Catheterization

Developing real-time MRI pulse sequences optimized for catheter tracking and visualization. Working with MRI-compatible catheter systems to enable diagnostic and therapeutic procedures entirely under MRI guidance.

Ablation Lesion Visualization

Developing gadolinium-free MRI methods to visualize radiofrequency ablation lesions in real time. This allows immediate assessment of whether the ablation was successful during the procedure itself.

ECG Integration in MRI

12-lead MR-compatible ECG and electrocardiographic imaging (ECGi) to provide fused electro-anatomical maps. Combines electrical mapping with MRI tissue characterization for comprehensive arrhythmia substrate assessment.

12-lead ECG ECGi MHD correction

Pre-Clinical Validation

Validation in phantom models and large animal studies before clinical translation. Building the safety and efficacy evidence required for regulatory approval of iCMR procedures in humans.
